Holy Spumante, Batman!

I should probably make some sort of money deal with wineries and other corporations before I start pimping their products here. But, since I’m new to the blogosphere and can claim to be a bit naive and ignorant about how things are done here, I’m comfortable saying that enthusiasm and zeal trump avarice and security every time. That being said, I think you should run, not walk, to your nearest magazine rack and pick up a copy of this month’s Food & Wine magazine–October 2010. The best part of the issue is not that it’s crammed with tons of great information on Italian food, Italians in America, or Italians doing Italian things with Italian stuff, but that it’s a virtual primer for folks who are just starting to find their way in the world of wine. There’s information on food and wine pairing and why that actually matters, where to find today’s best values from the USA and abroad, and what to do when you’re faced with cringe-inducing wine selections at special and not-so-special events.  If you’re just starting to learn about food and wine, this edition is a virtual beginners’ bible: interesting and affordable wines, simple recipes, and introductions to enough new varieties of wine and types of food that your friends and relatives will think you sold your soul to learn so much so fast. Go ahead. Buy it. Tell me if I’m wrong.  Salute! (That’s Italian.)

(One more thought: I’ve subscribed to many magazines over the years. If you love drinking and cooking, cooking and drinking, and various combinations thereof, this might be the best publication out there that covers all of your special interests. Subscribe. It’s a no-brainer. You want proof? I subscribe. Say no more.)    http://www.foodandwine.com/

Thomas, Thanks for the informative articles. They are witty and well written. I like Sauveur Magazine but will purchase Food and Wine to check it out.

I don’t find that Saveur holds a candle, wine-wise, to F&W. Do yourself a favor and get it. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for the nice words. Just getting going. We’ll see what happens…
