RED 4/14/12 2009 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (14.5% abv., $45, Farmstead Cheese and Wine): A brilliant garnet core, with aromas of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, and hints of sweet spice; just a touch of oak. More savory in the glass, with a soft body and flavors of herbs and damp earth. This is a rich, lush, almost viscous wine that will certainly age, but not indefinitely as I’m not sure the acid keeps up with the fruit and tannins. Conclusion: this is a versatile wine that will stand up to heartier fare but also has enough bright fruit for simple, light summer meals.
