No, Mary and I are not natives of Australia. We are both proud of our Empire State roots in the good ol’ US of A. But when we landed in Australia, after what seemed like a week of living on an airplane, we felt like we were back home in America. An America where all of a sudden everybody had powerful, yet strangely appealing accents. More specifically, it felt like we were back in the San Francisco Bay area. People in Melbourne are relaxed. They care about food and drink, art and style. And coffee. Melbourne is mad about coffee. In our six weeks of being on the road, in various parts of France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand, nowhere did we encounter a passion for quality coffee like we found in Melbourne. We would end up drinking plenty of wine in and around Melbourne, but the coffee made us sit up and take notice. Fortunately, we restricted our caffeine intake, mostly, to the morning, and so were able to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of this young and exciting city. Enjoy!
