We are shocked and devastated to share the news of Tom’s sudden passing. There are no words for the immeasurable loss felt by our family and the communities he touched. To honor his memory and celebrate his life, services will be held Saturday 4/27 at 12pm PST at the Elk’s Lodge in Alameda. If you see this smart, thoughtful, generous woman in NYC today, take a second to wish her a warm Happy Birthday. She deserves it. Many parents go through life wishing they had daughters with as much integrity, moxie, and wit as our Meg. When I think about our daughters I know we've been dealt a hand loaded with aces. Happy Birthday,Meg! We love you!

Thinking good thoughts about the richness of life. Cannot believe I never shared the highlight of 2023 — the celebration of our daughter Katie’s marriage to Matt Mahany. Truly a day for the family annals.

The tallest kid in the picture would be celebrating his 79th birthday today. I love this photo because Don was rarely the tallest in the room. Size aside, he was a giant in heart and mind and spirit. I had to do some research to find just the right descriptors for these wines, ideally a note that would embrace both. Took a while but I dug it up. And I’m pleased to report that both these wines can be described as “so, so damn good.” I know. Not very insightful. I thought the same thing. But there you go. If you really need to know, the Shafer had brighter acid, and the Hanzell had a gentle lemon lollipop hint on the mid palate. Both put themselves in any discussion of America’s finest chardonnays. One common denominator here is that it’s a privilege to be able to enjoy such fine wines. With Mary’s incredible chicken and mushroom recipe tonight, these wines made for an indulgent evening.
